September Box Office: ‘The Nun 2’ Beats ‘A Haunting in Venice’ in Its Debut

A new week has arrived, but Valak remains as mother superior of the box office. Although Kenneth Branagh‘s third Hercule Poirot film, A Haunting in Venice, made its debut over the weekend, it was scared off by The Nun II in a financial photo finish that saw the Agatha Christie detective score only $14.3 million compared to $14.5 million for the Taissa Farmiga-led film’s second weekend. Rounding out the top three, again, is The Equalizer 3 with another $7.2 million for Antoine Fuqua and company. It all adds up to one of the lowest-grossing domestic box offices of 2023.

​ The Nun II had a strong enough second weekend to scare off A Haunting in Venice at the box office while The Equalizer 3 kept crossing milestones.
