Hollywood’s Strikes Will Cast a Larger Spotlight on International Cinema and Shows

In early-March 2023, the Writers’ Guild of America began to announce that there was a possibility of a strike. By May, the writers were on strike, starting a fight against the studio system and the conditions that could threaten their careers, with a broad range of issues, ranging from the use of artificial intelligence and fair wages, being a core part of their fight for justice. Not long after the WGA began their strike, the Screen Actors Guild of America joined them on the picket lines, as they announced in mid-July that they, too, were going on strike.
